by Ananya Mehta

Arunachal Pradesh Police arrested Deepak Khatri, accused of duping multiple individuals of Rs46.27 lakh through a fake investment scheme under FXSTOCK Corporation Limited, on Wednesday. Khatri, who claimed to be a core team member and northeast in-charge of the company, had been operating in Naharlagun since early 2023.

The accused lured victims with promises of high returns through an online investment platform. Acting on a complaint registered in September, a police team led by Sub-Inspector R P Singh, assisted by Head Constables Kanto Samyor and Lham Tsering, tracked and apprehended Khatri from Dehradun on October 13 after a month of continuous surveillance across Uttarakhand and Delhi.

Naharlagun SP Nyelam Nega said, “Khatri misrepresented himself as a company official and persuaded individuals to invest substantial sums, which were later siphoned off. The scam caused collective losses of over Rs46 lakh.”

Investigators revealed that Khatri initially gained victims’ trust by presenting fake credentials and fabricated investment documents. Police are now probing whether he had local accomplices or a wider network involved in the fraud. Authorities have cautioned the public to verify the authenticity of online investment platforms and report suspicious activities promptly.
