Two men were arrested after being caught on security video allegedly burglarizing an apartment in Colonial Heights, Virginia, authorities said.

The Colonial Heights Police Department responded around 7:30 p.m. on December 29 to a reported burglary at Colonial Court Apartments in the 900 block of Westover Avenue. The resident, who was out of state, observed multiple men entering the apartment and taking items via surveillance footage before contacting police.

Officers arrived to find Rashawn Lane, 20, of Richmond, fleeing the scene. Lane was apprehended on site. While investigating a nearby vehicle containing stolen items, another suspect, 25-year-old David Chieffo of Henrico, returned to the area. With assistance from Chesterfield Police K9 units, Chieffo was located and arrested.

Both Lane and Chieffo were charged with:

Felony breaking and entering

Grand larceny

Using a firearm to commit a felony

Possessing a firearm as a convicted felon

Fleeing from police

Additional charges may be added as the investigation continues. Both suspects are being held without bond at Riverside Regional Jail until their next court appearances.
