Four members of an inter-state gang were arrested on Sunday for their involvement in a high-profile burglary at Radhika Jewellers in Haldwani’s Mukhani area, with valuables worth Rs22 lakh recovered from them.
The burglary took place two weeks ago, when thieves broke into the shop by breaching a wall from a neighbouring premises, stealing silver and gold jewellery along with cash worth up to Rs1.25 crore. An FIR was registered at Mukhani police station under BNS Sections 305(A) (theft) and 331(3) (house-breaking with intent to commit an offence).
The SSP stated that CCTV footage identified a Bolero vehicle linked to the crime. Using technical surveillance and intelligence inputs, police conducted searches across multiple states and along the Nepal border.
The accused were apprehended near the Banbasa area in Champawat district:
Maqsood Sheikh (Jharkhand) – three gold earrings, one silver coin
Imran Sheikh (Jharkhand) – one silver brick
Tanveer Ahmad (Mumbai) – two gold bangles
Basant Khatri (Nepal) – three gold earrings and three ear ornaments
Police confirmed that the gang members were seasoned criminals and further investigations are underway to recover any remaining stolen property and identify other accomplices.
