An alert homeowner successfully thwarted a burglary at his residence in Sangareddy, Telangana, on Tuesday, December 30, thanks to his CCTV surveillance system.
Bharath Kumar and his family had traveled to Bhadrachalam on Monday for Vaikunta Dwara Darshanam. On their return, they stopped near Patancheru for tea at a roadside hotel around 2:00 pm. While away, Kumar checked the CCTV feed and noticed two burglars ransacking his house.
He quickly alerted neighbors and instructed them to lock the house from outside, suspecting the thieves were still inside. Sadasivapet police arrived promptly at the scene.
The burglars, identified as Boke Mohan (25) of Kamareddy district and Chekuri Vishnu (19), allegedly cut their hands with razor blades to avoid attacks from the crowd that had gathered. Police shifted them to a hospital for treatment before producing them in court. Two other accomplices reportedly fled the scene in an auto.
Authorities said Mohan and Vishnu were experienced burglars involved in multiple previous incidents. Kumar had installed CCTV cameras 10 months after a previous theft, which ultimately helped catch the criminals during their next attempt.
According to Sadashivpet police, the duo was arrested under Section 305 (burglary) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS) and sent to judicial remand.
This incident underscores the importance of home surveillance and community vigilance in preventing crime.
