MIAMI — Police have arrested a Miami man accused of stealing tens of thousands of dollars’ worth of copper wiring and construction tools from a secured storage trailer at the Miami VA Hospital late last year.
According to a Miami Police Department arrest report, the burglary occurred on the night of Nov. 5, 2025, at the VA Hospital located at 1201 NW 16th St. Workers had secured the industrial trailer around 6 p.m., but returned the next morning to find the lock cut and the door partially open.
An inventory revealed that pallets of copper wiring and various construction tools, valued at approximately $100,000, were missing. Surveillance video provided by the Veterans Affairs Police Department reportedly showed a white Ford Econoline van arriving at the trailer around 10:03 p.m. A suspect wearing a neon safety vest was seen cutting the lock, while a second individual helped load items into the van before the suspects fled the scene about 20 minutes later.
Investigators noted the van had visible damage to its right-side passenger door. On Nov. 12, Miami-Dade Sheriff’s Office deputies stopped a white Ford Econoline matching the vehicle’s description. Two men fled on foot, but the driver, identified as 30-year-old Kurt Williams of Miami, was apprehended. Records showed the van had been reported stolen out of Fort Lauderdale, while the passenger escaped and remains at large.
A search warrant executed on Nov. 19 led detectives to recover construction tools and neon safety vests from the van, along with damage consistent with the vehicle seen in surveillance footage. Williams, who police say has a prior theft-related criminal history, was formally arrested on Dec. 27, 2025.
He faces charges of burglary of an unoccupied structure and second-degree grand theft and remains held at the Metrowest Detention Center.
Anyone with information about the second suspect is urged to contact the Miami Police Department or Miami-Dade Crime Stoppers.
