Police on Thursday arrested Maroof, a resident of Kanghimohal and worker at a slipper factory, for allegedly snatching the purse of female constable Pinky Pal while she was returning home after duty on December 28. The Sisamau police recovered the scooter used in the robbery, Rs 1,400, and the constable’s I-card and Aadhaar card.
Pinky Pal, a computer operator at the women’s police station, had been returning to her residence in Chamanganj when two men on a scooter attacked her near Gandhi Nagar, taking Rs 10,000, a Bluetooth device, and other important documents. Following her complaint, police launched a search operation.
Police said Maroof, under the influence of alcohol, had been roaming the area with his accomplice since the night of December 27, looking for a target. While Maroof was apprehended, the second accused remains absconding, and the investigation is ongoing.
DCP Central Shravan Kumar Singh confirmed that law enforcement is actively pursuing leads to identify and arrest the remaining suspect.
