The Government Railway Police (GRP) has arrested 33-year-old Kavita Satish Lokhande, a resident of Ulhasnagar, for her alleged involvement in a series of thefts at Thane railway station, Maharashtra. The arrest followed an incident on September 23, when Lokhande allegedly snatched a gold ornament worth Rs1.05 lakh from a commuter boarding a local train. A team of plainclothes GRP personnel immediately chased and captured her through the crowded platform.
During interrogation, Lokhande confessed to her involvement in the other thefts. Verification of case records revealed she had participated in five additional theft cases, all at the Thane railway station. Authorities recovered jewellery totaling Rs2.72 lakh from her possession.
The GRP credited coordinated surveillance and prompt action by the plainclothes team for the swift apprehension of the accused, highlighting the importance of vigilance in crowded public areas.
