FORT MYERS, Fla. — Police responded to an incident Monday night along First Street near Woodford Avenue in downtown Fort Myers, resulting in one arrest.
According to the Fort Myers Police Department (FMPD), 26-year-old Jose Gregorio Romero Carvajal was taken into custody following a breach of peace investigation at the 400 block of Palm Beach Boulevard related to suspected fraudulent check activity.
Witnesses reported seeing up to 25 police officers at the scene. Officers later located Carvajal’s vehicle and conducted a traffic stop, recovering multiple check orders that had been thrown from the vehicle. A search of the vehicle uncovered additional checks made out to various individuals, with a total value of approximately $33,394.
Authorities also discovered that Carvajal was driving without a valid driver’s license and had an outstanding out-of-county warrant.
Carvajal now faces charges including fleeing and eluding law enforcement, fraud and impersonation, tampering with evidence, operating a vehicle without a valid driver’s license, and the outstanding warrant.
