Malad police have arrested three individuals for stealing ATM cards and withdrawing money fraudulently from unsuspecting bank customers across Mumbai suburbs this month. The accused admitted to targeting ATMs in Andheri, Bandra, Kandivli, Borivli, Chembur, and Malad.
The latest incident occurred on October 8 at Malad, when a 55-year-old man’s ATM card got stuck during a withdrawal. The accused offered to help retrieve the card and discreetly noted down his PIN. They then stole the card and withdrew Rs 40,000 from his account.
Following the complaint, a team led by Senior Inspector Dushyant Chavan reviewed CCTV footage from the ATM and its surroundings. The accused were seen traveling in a car, which police traced to its owner via vehicle registration. The owner revealed that he had hired out the car to three men—the suspects.
The accused were apprehended and identified as:
Mohammad Aarif Khan (47) – Chauffeur
Abdul Haqiq Khan (34) – Truck driver with prior criminal record in Uttar Pradesh
Danish Khan (23) – Labourer with prior criminal record in Uttar Pradesh
The trio has confessed to multiple fraudulent withdrawals, highlighting the need for caution while using ATMs.
