by Sophia Bennett

VILLA PARK, Ill. – Four women from Cook County were arrested after allegedly stealing over $1,400 worth of merchandise from the Burlington store in Villa Park earlier this week.

The incident escalated into a high-speed car chase and a foot pursuit before all four suspects were apprehended, according to the DuPage County State’s Attorney’s Office.

Deondra McReynolds, 23, faces charges of burglary, retail theft, and two counts of aggravated fleeing and eluding a police officer. She remains in custody pending trial.

Heaven E. Cannon-Triplett, 22, Fontazia A. Rodriguez, 30, and Tandalaya Z. Pettis, 26, were charged with burglary and retail theft and have been released from jail.

The alleged theft occurred shortly before noon on Monday at Burlington, 174 Roosevelt Road, prompting a call to Villa Park police. Officers spotted a red Nissan leaving the store parking lot. When approached, McReynolds allegedly drove off at high speed, ignoring stop signs, driving into oncoming traffic, and reaching speeds up to 113 mph.

Police ended the chase as the car entered eastbound Interstate 290. Oak Brook police and a Chicago police helicopter later located the vehicle in a Chicago alley, where a brief foot chase led to the arrest of all four women.

The stolen merchandise was valued at $1,472, according to prosecutors.

DuPage County State’s Attorney Robert Berlin condemned McReynolds’ actions, stating they endangered herself, passengers, officers, and innocent motorists during the busy holiday season.

The suspects are scheduled for their next court appearance on Jan. 20.
