In a shocking development, a 72-year-old man, Shikharchand Hanumantraj Jain, was arrested by the police on Wednesday for illegally selling rooms that belonged to his tenants in a dilapidated building located in South Mumbai. Jain, a partner in Rishi Enterprises, reportedly sold the rooms for around Rs 2.80 crore.
The police are continuing their investigation into the case, which has sparked concern regarding tenant rights and illegal property dealings. While Jain has been arrested, other individuals involved, including Premlata Shikharchand Jain, Narendra Kumar Hanumantraj Sanghavi, and Hastimal Kataria, are still at large.
The issue arose when a court instructed tenants Kamladevi Gupta (86) and Navalkishore Gupta (67) to vacate the premises. Jain had allegedly promised to rebuild the five-storey building and return possession of the property to the tenants. However, instead of keeping his word, he sold the property to another person.
In November 2021, possession of the building was handed over to Jain and Premlata Jain, along with two NOC holders, thus making the sale illegal. The case continues to unfold as authorities work to apprehend the remaining suspects and resolve the situation for the affected tenants.
