Chettipalayam police have arrested seven employees of an e-commerce company for stealing electronic goods worth Rs11.52 lakh from the firm’s warehouse at Okkilipalayam near Othakkalmandabam.
The accused have been identified as S Vignesh (25) of Pollachi, R Kishorekumar (24) of Ramanathapuram, H Ashla (25) of Kerala, S Siranjeevi (26) of Tirupur, S Sri Sanjay (20) of Mahalingapuram, M Yogesh (26) of Tirupur, and M Mohammed Adil (21) of Kerala.
The theft came to light during a routine inspection by the company’s enforcement officer Sakthivel, who noticed discrepancies in returned parcels. Boxes labelled as 7-kg washing powder packets were found to contain high-value electronics, including laptops, mobile phones, watches, and other gadgets.
CCTV footage analysis revealed that the accused carried out the fraud between April 8 and August 17. Police said the group placed orders for low-cost items using fake names, and once the parcels reached the warehouse for processing, they replaced them with expensive electronic items before dispatching the packages for personal gain.
Following a complaint filed on Friday, police questioned the seven accused, who confessed to the crime. All stolen items were recovered from them. The accused were produced before a court and remanded to judicial custody.
Police said another employee, Anjali, is also involved in the fraud and is currently absconding. A manhunt has been launched to trace her.
