7 Arrested in Gujarat for Fake Arms Licences from UP

ATS Busts Racket Linked to Forged Gun Licences in UP

by Ananya Mehta

The Gujarat Anti-Terrorism Squad (ATS) has unearthed a bogus arms licence racket linked to Uttar Pradesh, leading to the arrest of seven individuals involved in acquiring firearms using forged documents.

The accused have been identified as Sholesingh Sengar, Ved Prakash Singh Sengar, Mukesh Singh, Rajendra Singh, Vijay Singh, Abhishek Trivedi, and Ajay Sengar. They were arrested from various areas in Ahmedabad, including Vastral, Meghaninagar, and Adalaj.

The ATS seized seven revolvers and 261 live cartridges from the accused. According to investigators, the arms were procured based on fake licences issued from Uttar Pradesh, suggesting an inter-state nexus in the ongoing arms scam.

This is not the first such racket exposed by the ATS. In earlier operations, 16 people were arrested and 108 individuals were found to have obtained licences using forged documents. The forged documents had primarily been used to acquire arms from Nagaland.

The current arrests bring the total number of accused held in connection with such fake licence rackets to 25. Authorities suspect that the network extends beyond Gujarat, with possible links to other states.

Investigations are ongoing to determine the full extent of the racket and identify other individuals involved in the illegal procurement and distribution of firearms.
