In a major drug bust on Monday, police in East Jaintia Hills, Meghalaya, arrested two suspected drug traffickers, including a 65-year-old woman, and seized a significant quantity of drugs from their possession.

The arrests were made after the police intercepted a Maruti Eco van bearing the registration number ML05-AE-4423 on National Highway-06 near Sunapur village, based on credible intelligence about the illegal activity.

Upon searching the vehicle, police recovered 14 soap boxes filled with suspected narcotics. Six of these boxes were found concealed on the body of Gouri Das, a resident of the area, while the remaining eight were hidden inside the vehicle.

The driver of the van, Safiqul Alom, 40, a resident of Silchar, Assam, was also detained. Police have seized Rs26,450 in cash from the duo, which may be linked to their drug trafficking operation.

Both suspects are being interrogated, and the authorities are continuing their investigation into the drug network involved. Further legal action is expected as the case progresses.
