The cybercrime cell of Ghaziabad police arrested four individuals on Tuesday for their involvement in creating and distributing fake vehicle insurance policies by bypassing and tampering with official online systems.
The arrested have been identified as Vikas Kashyap (38), Akash Shishodia (25), Mohammad Yakub (35), and Arim Ali (22). A fifth suspect, Rohit Kumar, remains absconding. Police said Vikas and Rohit worked as agents for a private insurance firm and operated out of Richpalpuri, Ghaziabad.
During interrogation, the suspects admitted to fabricating over 12,000 fake insurance policies within the last year. They lured customers by offering cheaper rates, then used agent credentials to issue fake or downgraded policies—often registering them as two-wheelers to reduce the premium amount payable to the company.
“They convinced customers using genuine-looking credentials, collected cash, and issued offline policy documents with manipulated details. This allowed them to pocket the excess premium,” said Additional DCP (Crime) Piyush Kumar Singh.
An FIR was registered on March 8 under relevant sections of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS) and IT Act. Investigations into the full scale of the scam are ongoing.
