In a major drug trafficking interception, the Guwahati Government Railway Police (GRPS) recovered 44 packets of suspected cannabis (ganja) weighing around 65.5 kilograms from four individuals at Platform No. 1 of Guwahati Railway Station on Tuesday.
The operation, executed on the basis of a confidential tip-off, targeted Train No. 12423 DN, the New Delhi-bound Rajdhani Express. The suspects had reportedly boarded the train at Dimapur Railway Station intending to smuggle the ganja to the national capital.
Upon the train’s arrival in Guwahati, the GRPS conducted a detailed search and apprehended the four accused along with the contraband.
🔹 Arrested Individuals:
Nongthombam Landson Singh (22) – Wankhei Yumlembam Leikei, Imphal East
Raireikhan Tungshang (25) – Langdang village, Ukhrul district
James Kamei (25) – Namdulong, Imphal East
Pukhrambam Kanta Singh (24) – Waheng Khumar Mayai Leikai, Bishnupur district
All four hail from Manipur and are currently in police custody.
Legal proceedings have been initiated under the relevant provisions of the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (NDPS) Act. Authorities are now investigating a possible wider drug smuggling network connected to the suspects.
