Four Men Charged with Murder After 4-Year-Old Jayce Edwards Killed in Charlotte Shooting
CHARLOTTE, N.C. – Four men have been arrested and charged with first-degree murder in the death of 4-year-old Jayce Edwards, who was fatally shot during a car theft on Cigar Court in southwest Charlotte on September 17.
Court documents confirm that the suspects—Angelo Lamont Hudson, Jordon Chandler Davis, Marquise Guerrier, and Anthony Abel—were involved in the theft of a Dodge Charger from the neighborhood.
Shots Fired During Car Theft
According to affidavits, the suspects arrived in another vehicle and, during the theft of the Charger, someone inside that car fired shots into nearby townhomes. One of those bullets struck 4-year-old Jayce Edwards inside his home. He died before emergency crews could get him to the hospital.
The shooting sent shockwaves through the community, with many left devastated by the senseless loss of a child.
Surveillance and Arrests
Investigators were able to gather suspect descriptions using surveillance footage. The suspects were later tracked to a gas station, where Charlotte-Mecklenburg Police attempted a traffic stop. The group fled the scene on foot, but one suspect was quickly captured.
That individual later confessed to being with the others at multiple crime scenes, leading to the arrests of all four men.
Hudson, Davis, and Guerrier were arrested in Charlotte
Anthony Abel was arrested in Raleigh and will be extradited to Mecklenburg County
Connected Vehicle Thefts
The same group is also believed to be connected to the theft of:
A Dodge Durango in Cabarrus County
A Chevrolet Camaro in York County
A Jeep in an unspecified location
All four suspects are now facing first-degree murder charges, in addition to pending charges for multiple vehicle thefts and firearm-related offenses.
