Madhya Pradesh witnessed two devastating road accidents on Friday, leaving three people dead and more than 20 others injured.
The first incident occurred on National Highway 44 in the Kurai police station limits of Seoni district around 3 PM. A speeding truck collided with a stationary taxi, throwing it into a roadside guard wall. The impact killed two passengers — Santkumar Hardiya (55) and Ramkishore Barmaiya (50). One died on the spot, while the other succumbed to injuries at a hospital.
At least eight others were injured, with a critically wounded woman transferred to Nagpur for advanced treatment. The remaining victims are being treated at the Chhapara Community Health Centre.
Truck driver Ajit Yadav has been arrested, and the vehicle seized. Kurai police station in-charge Kripal Singh Tekam stated that the victims were traveling from Chhindwara Chowk to Khawasa, which initially delayed their identification.
In the second incident, later the same day, a private bus traveling from Chhatarpur to Damoh overturned in the Sathiya Valley near Hirapur. The bus reportedly lost control, leading to the death of Damodar Singh Lodhi (30) of Batiagarh.
Another passenger, Rama (45) of Teacher Colony, Damoh, suffered a traumatic leg amputation. Several others were injured and taken to the Shahgarh Community Health Centre, with many later referred to Sagar District Hospital.
Hirapur outpost in-charge Arvind Singh Thakur led the rescue operation, ensuring swift medical attention to the victims.
These back-to-back incidents have highlighted the urgent need for stricter enforcement of traffic regulations and better highway safety in Madhya Pradesh.
