3 Chinese Nationals Sentenced in Gift Card Fraud Case

Trio tied to scams, face deportation after prison terms

by Amelia Crawford

MANCHESTER, N.H. — Three Chinese nationals have been sentenced to federal prison for their involvement in a large-scale gift card fraud scheme that targeted victims through romance and elder scams.

Naxin Wu, Mengying Jiang, and Mingdong Chen each received sentences of at least two years behind bars after pleading guilty to charges related to the operation. Upon completing their prison terms, all three individuals face deportation.

According to investigators, the trio played a role in a Chinese-run operation that defrauded victims across the U.S. The scheme involved manipulating individuals—primarily through romance scams and elder fraud—into purchasing gift cards. The defendants then used those gift cards to buy high-end electronics such as Apple products, which were sold overseas for profit.

Authorities emphasized that the case highlights growing concerns about international fraud networks exploiting vulnerable populations. This sentencing marks a significant step in holding perpetrators accountable and disrupting transnational financial crimes.
