In a significant crackdown on drug trafficking, the police in Malegaon, Nashik district, arrested three men for possession of mephedrone (MD) worth Rs5.82 lakh, officials confirmed on Tuesday.
Acting on a tip-off, a special police squad raided the Hirapur Maidan area of Malegaon, where they found the accused with 194 grams of the banned synthetic drug, which they intended to sell, said an official, as reported by PTI.
The arrested individuals have been identified as:
Ansari Istiaq Mukhtar Ahmed (25)
Jalal Ahmed Mohammed Haneef Shiekh (32)
Mosin Khan Jainulabdin Pathan (37)
All three have been booked under relevant sections of the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (NDPS) Act.
Police revealed that the trio had sourced the drug from a fourth individual, who is currently absconding. A search operation is underway to apprehend the supplier.
This seizure is part of an ongoing effort to curb the rising circulation of synthetic drugs in the region.
