The Central Cyber Cell has arrested a 26-year-old woman, Nazook Madan Lochan, in connection with a Rs97 lakh cyber fraud. She was apprehended in Malad by a team led by PI Mausami Patil.
The investigation revealed that Nazook was one of the beneficiaries whose account received Rs20 lakh from the cyber criminals. The money was later withdrawn, implicating her in the scam. The total amount of the fraud is estimated to be Rs97 lakh.
The victim, a 69-year-old retired woman from Wadala, was targeted on December 5. The fraudsters, posing as CBI officers, threatened her with a digital arrest. Using fear and deception, they coerced her into transferring a large sum of money to the scammers.
The Cyber Cell is continuing to investigate the involvement of other suspects and is tracking the money trail. Authorities are also examining whether Nazook was directly involved in the scam or was merely used as a money mule.
