Over the past week, 22 individuals have been arrested in connection with nine cyber fraud cases resolved by the Cyber Crime Unit, ending on August 2. Assistant Commissioner of Police, Abhimanyu Goyat, revealed that the accused were involved in various online frauds targeting innocent consumers. The arrested individuals, including Amit Mishra, Mohammad Masrur, Kuldeep Kumar, Rijal Walia alias Shubham, and others, were apprehended from Delhi, Rajasthan, and surrounding regions of the National Capital Region (NCR).

Goyat explained that five of the cases were resolved by the Cyber NIT Police Station, while the Central and Ballabhgarh police zones each handled two cases. The investigation team addressed a total of 1,177 complaints, resulting in refunds of Rs3,75,116 to the victims and the freezing of Rs1,57,331 from the fraudsters’ bank accounts.

The criminals involved in these cases used several deceptive tactics to scam victims. One common approach was the creation of fake job opportunities, advertised through fraudulent websites and online postings. Many victims were also extorted under various pretexts, including fake claims of power, water, and property tax bills needing to be cleared urgently. Another prevalent scam involved enticing victims to invest in the stock market through bogus apps and platforms, promising high returns in a short period.

The fraudsters also resorted to other methods such as offering fake bank loans, blackmailing individuals with obscene videos, and tricking people into transferring money via QR codes, UPI, and OTPs, which they obtained by impersonating bank officials.
