In a major anti-drug operation, the Greater Chennai Police (GCP) arrested 21 individuals for possessing illegal substances, including ganja and painkiller tablets. The special two-day drive resulted in the seizure of 15.8 kg of ganja and 4,184 nitrazepam tablets. Nitrazepam is a powerful painkiller often misused as a recreational drug.

The operation was carried out after a tip-off led a team from the Tondiarpet Police Station to Kailasam Street in Tondiarpet. There, they apprehended key suspects: H. Karthik (25), known as ‘Pura’ Karthik, M. Madhankumar (19), M. Abdul Kareem (25), and C. Joseph (27), also called ‘Dinesh’. The police seized 3,005 nitrazepam tablets and four mobile phones from their possession.

This drug bust is part of the city’s ongoing efforts to combat drug trafficking and substance abuse. Authorities are continuing to investigate the network of dealers involved in distributing these illegal substances. The police are urging the public to report any suspicious activity to help safeguard the community from the harmful effects of drugs.

This significant operation highlights the GCP’s commitment to combatting the growing drug problem in the city and maintaining public safety
