LILONGWE, Malawi — The Lilongwe Police have arrested an 18-year-old man, Daudi Suleman, also known as Axonke or Two Fresh, for his involvement in a series of robberies. The suspect was found in possession of stolen home electronics valued at K6 million, including four plasma screens and smartphones.
Suleman was apprehended following a tip-off from the local community. According to Lilongwe Police Public Relations Officer, Inspector Hastings Chigalu, the police received information that Suleman was selling a 58-inch JVC plasma screen under suspicious circumstances. This led to his arrest after the community member reported the activity to the authorities.
During his interrogation, Suleman admitted to acting alone and confessed to committing burglaries in several houses in Area 23 Midland and Kaliyeka. He further guided police to five homes where he had previously committed the crimes. The stolen items recovered included four plasma screens, two laptops, two cellphones, and an iPad.
Inspector Chigalu confirmed that all recovered electronics have been positively identified by their rightful owners and will be returned to them. Meanwhile, the police are preparing for Suleman’s court appearance, where he will face charges of burglary and theft. The exact court date is yet to be confirmed, but officials have assured that he will be sentenced according to the law.
Suleman, a resident of Chilopola Village in the Traditional Authority Amidu area of Balaka District, has a history of criminal involvement. The police have successfully confiscated all the stolen items before they could be sold off, ensuring the items are returned to the victims.
