A 17-year-old college student from Pune was detained by the police for stealing two bikes from the city. The teenager, who had a penchant for branded clothes and joyrides, was caught after attempting to sell a stolen vehicle.
On Friday, while checking traffic violators, the Pune police received a tip-off about a suspect on his way to sell a stolen bike. The Bharati Vidyapeeth police laid a trap and successfully apprehended the teenager.
Senior Police Inspector Savalaram Salgaonkar of Bharati Vidyapeeth police station explained, “We deployed our team based on the tip-off. The suspect was trying to sell a stolen bike, and we managed to catch him red-handed. He had stolen two bikes around one-and-a-half months ago. His exams are approaching, and we informed his parents about the incident.”
The minor, who is a Class 12 student, had stolen the bikes in order to earn money for branded clothes since he felt his pocket money was insufficient. Police Sub-Inspector Nilesh Mokashi, who is investigating the case, added, “He confessed that he stole the bikes and was planning to sell them. One bike had keys, and the other was taken with duplicate keys. He parked the bikes in an abandoned area and was about to sell them when we detained him.”
In a separate incident, two thieves were arrested on Sinhagad Road for stealing multiple two-wheelers. Sopan Ramesh Tonde (27) and Akash Sunil Nakade (29) were caught by patrolling police constables, who had received information about their criminal activities. The suspects admitted to stealing five two-wheelers, a laptop, and a camera, and they were heading towards Vadgaon from the Navale Bridge area when arrested.
