In a major crackdown on cross-border drug trafficking, the Assam Rifles arrested three individuals and seized 1.377 kilograms of Heroin No-4 worth ₹11.40 crore from Zokhawthar village in Champhai district, Mizoram, on Tuesday.
Based on specific intelligence regarding drug movement, troops from the Assam Rifles launched an operation around World Bank Road. During the operation, three suspects — Zarzosanga, Joseph Lalmuansanga, and Malsawmkimi — were apprehended while attempting to retrieve a concealed drug package.
A thorough search led to the recovery of 1.377 kg of Heroin No-4, a high-grade narcotic with significant black-market value.
The arrested individuals and seized heroin were handed over to the Customs and Narcotics Department in Champhai for further legal proceedings.
The Assam Rifles, which guards a 510-kilometre stretch of the Indo-Myanmar border, has been actively involved in intercepting narcotics smuggling. This operation was led under the supervision of the 23 Sector Assam Rifles Headquarters in Aizawl, which oversees three battalions.
