In a swift operation, Delhi Police arrested Zarina Begum, a domestic help, for allegedly stealing valuables worth lakhs from the home of retired Colonel P.S. Kamal in Madhu Vihar. The incident was reported on July 3, following which an FIR was registered and an investigation launched.

Police said that Begum sold the stolen items to splurge on an iPhone, a gold ring, and a two-wheeler. Her accomplice, Ayush Soni, a jeweller from Kalyanpuri, was also arrested for purchasing the stolen gold at low prices and melting it into new ornaments for resale.

Authorities recovered the following from the duo:

150 grams of gold jewellery

One gold ring

An iPhone

A scooter

Rs1.2 lakh in cash

The breakthrough came when police traced suspicious transactions to Ayush Soni, who confessed during interrogation to buying the stolen gold from Zarina Begum. He admitted to melting some ornaments and converting them into new pieces.

Begum, later arrested from Khicdipur, admitted to the theft, revealing that she wanted to improve her lifestyle quickly by acquiring expensive items.

Both Zarina Begum and Ayush Soni had no prior criminal record, police confirmed. The investigation is ongoing to identify if any other buyers or victims are linked to the case.
