In a continuing crackdown on drug trafficking, Pulwama Police arrested three drug peddlers and detained two drug consumers in separate operations across Pulwama and Awantipora.
At Achgoza in Pulwama, police stopped a car (JK05H-0877) and recovered approximately 5.7 kilograms of poppy straw along with Rs14,200 in cash. The occupants — Zahoor Ahmad Dar, son of Abdul Gani Dar, and Rayees Ahmad Gooru, son of Bashir Ahmad Gooru, both residents of Gath Takun, Awantipora — were arrested and remain in police custody.
In a separate incident at Putrigam, another vehicle (JK13A-8461) was stopped. Police recovered 10.06 grams of a heroin-like substance from the driver, identified as Amir Ahmed Wani, son of Abdul Samad Wani of Dadora, Pulwama. He was immediately arrested, and the car was seized.
Meanwhile, at Dangerpora-Padgampora Crossing in Awantipora, police detained two alleged drug users — Mushtaq Ahmad Bhat, son of Abdul Gani Bhat of Awantipora, and Rehan Fayaz Mir, son of Fayaz Ahmad Mir of Iqbal Colony, Awantipora. Both were sent to the Drug De-addiction and Rehabilitation Centre in Tral. Medical tests confirmed both had recently consumed narcotics.
Relevant cases have been registered at respective police stations, and further investigations are underway.
