CAÑON CITY, Colo. – A 37-year-old man was arrested on January 10 after allegedly robbing the US Bank on Macon Avenue in Cañon City.
According to the Cañon City Police Department (CCPD), the robbery was reported just before 4:45 p.m. on January 10. The suspect fled on foot, heading west, but officers were able to identify the man as a suspect through witness statements and surveillance footage.
Detectives later identified the suspect as Zachary Stanley, a local resident of Cañon City. He was arrested on charges of robbery, theft, false report of weapons, false report to authorities, telecommunications crime, and second-degree criminal trespass.
Chief John Schick of the CCPD credited the arrest to the hard work of the Detective Unit and the significant assistance from the community, which provided crucial information for the investigation. An initial call for help went out to the public through the Custer and Fremont County Everbridge platform, an emergency communication system that sent alerts directly from law enforcement to the community.
CCPD emphasized the importance of community participation, urging residents to sign up for Everbridge alerts to receive timely updates in emergencies and crime investigations, like the January 10 bank robbery.
