NAKHON PATHOM, THAILAND — A couple has been arrested for running a lucrative illegal online gambling operation known as “Egg Pick for Luck and Wealth”, which generated approximately 400,000 baht per month through Facebook livestreams.
Police Lieutenant General Trirong Phiwphan, along with top cybercrime officials, announced the arrests on April 28 at the Cyber Crime Investigation Bureau headquarters in Nonthaburi. The operation aligns with a broader crackdown on online gambling activities that disproportionately target the public and youth.
The case was led by Investigation Division 4 under the Bureau of Technology Crime Suppression Division 2. Officers traced a Facebook page promoting a lottery-style game that offered participants a chance to win between 5,000 and 50,000 baht by selecting numbers from one to four. Each player had to transfer either 500 or 1,000 baht to join the game via online banking.
Authorities identified the suspects as 28-year-old Yutthana and 24-year-old Prathana, both residents of Ban Luang Subdistrict, Don Tum District, in Nakhon Pathom. Following a search of their residence, police seized multiple computers, mobile phones, communication tools, and financial records connected to the operation.
The couple admitted to launching the gambling game in 2023 and livestreaming it three to four times daily on Facebook, averaging 70 to 90 participants per session. Their activities earned them an estimated 4.8 million baht annually.
They now face multiple charges under Thailand’s Gambling Act of 1935 for organising and promoting illegal gambling through electronic media, along with charges for conspiracy and money laundering.
Authorities have reiterated warnings about digital gambling scams, urging the public to stay alert and report suspicious online activities.
