The Dahisar Cyber Police have arrested Dilip Kumar Sahu (41), a YouTuber and Bhojpuri actor from Uttar Pradesh, for allegedly cheating a Mumbai man of over Rs3.5 lakh through a fake cash-for-credit-card swipe scheme.
Sahu was arrested from Kaushambi, UP, and brought to Mumbai on transit remand on June 28. Investigations revealed that he committed similar frauds in Kandivli, Goregaon, and other Mumbai localities, with complaints also filed in Kaushambi.
The victim, a 44-year-old BEST driver from Borivli East, approached the police after being duped. He was lured by a poster advertising “Credit Card Se Cash Lijiye” and contacted Sahu, who promised cash with just a 2.5% commission. Initially, the victim received Rs19,500 after sharing his credit card details and OTPs. Encouraged, he later transferred details for Rs3.5 lakh but received no money, despite multiple debits from his accounts.
Following the victim’s complaint on the National Cybercrime Portal, the Dahisar Cyber Cell traced and arrested Sahu. Police suspect there may be more victims.
“Sahu exploited social engineering tactics to gain trust and siphon funds,” said a Dahisar Cyber Cell officer. Sahu was produced before the metropolitan magistrate court and remanded to police custody until July 1. Further investigations are ongoing to identify accomplices and recover the defrauded money.
