Mulund police have registered a case against three Kalyan residents — Yogesh Patil, Amar Patil, and Shina Patil — for allegedly cheating a 58-year-old man, Nagraj Harijan, in a room-purchase agreement dating back to 2014.
According to the complaint, Harijan had agreed to buy a 250 sq ft chawl room on Haji Malang Road, Kalyan, for Rs2 lakh. Between 2014 and 2017, he reportedly paid a total of Rs2.5 lakh in instalments covering booking, documentation, and “samiti expenses,” which the accused claimed were necessary for local committee approvals. Stamped receipts and notarised papers were allegedly issued to give the deal a legitimate appearance.
Over the years, the accused repeatedly postponed possession, shifting Harijan from one proposed unit to another while assuring him that only minor finishing work, such as painting and fixture installation, was pending. Police stated that Harijan delayed filing the complaint because the trio continued to stay in contact, providing assurances of imminent possession. The complaint was ultimately filed after Harijan visited their Kalyan office, found it closed, and could no longer reach them by phone.
The FIR has been registered under Sections 316(2), 318(4), and 3(5) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS), and further investigation is ongoing. The accused will be summoned for questioning in connection with the alleged property fraud.
