Walterboro, SC — A 45-year-old Yemassee man, Marvis Jermaine Williams, was convicted Wednesday for the 2023 murder of a woman in the parking lot of a Walterboro restaurant, according to the 14th Judicial Circuit.

Williams was found guilty of murder and possession of a weapon during the commission of a violent crime. He was sentenced to 30 years in prison.

“This defendant’s actions were brazen and ruthless,” said Assistant Solicitor Julie Kate Keeney of the 14th Circuit Solicitor’s Office. “His actions resulted in the death of one woman and put others at risk. Justice was served today while making Colleton County a safer place.”

According to court records, Williams shot and killed Mia Tabb outside the Barrell House Grille on Robertson Boulevard on August 15, 2023.

Also charged in connection with the case is 49-year-old Tamika Suewanna Carter, a former Hampton County law enforcement officer. Carter is presumed innocent until proven guilty in court.
