WASHINGTON, D.C. — U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) has arrested Yehia Elham Badawi, a 48-year-old Egyptian national and criminal illegal alien with a violent past that includes a 1994 shootout with police in Philadelphia.

Badawi, once featured on America’s Most Wanted in 1996, had been evading capture for decades. On July 30, 2025, ICE agents in Philadelphia successfully took him into custody.

The Crime: 1994 Armed Robbery and Police Shooting
Badawi was wanted for his role in a violent supermarket robbery where he and an accomplice—both masked and armed with rifles—fled the scene on bicycles, triggering a high-speed chase. During the pursuit, a Philadelphia police officer was shot and seriously injured.

One assailant was shot and captured immediately. Badawi escaped, later turning up in Salt Lake City, Utah, where he was arrested and began a long legal and immigration battle.

Criminal Record
Badawi’s rap sheet includes multiple violent felonies, among them:

Criminal Attempt

Criminal Conspiracy

Possession of an Instrument of Crime

Simple Assault

Aggravated Assault

Recklessly Endangering Another Person

Robbery

Theft by Unlawful Taking

Receiving Stolen Property

He has been a known threat to public safety for over two decades.
