KANSAS CITY, Mo. (KCTV) – Yahir Van Vollenhoven, 25, of Overland Park, Kansas, was arrested in Kansas City, Missouri, in connection with a human trafficking charge and is awaiting extradition back to Kansas.
According to Jackson County, Missouri, Circuit Court records filed on January 21, Van Vollenhoven has been taken into custody in relation to a charge of human trafficking filed in Douglas County, Kansas. A waiver of extradition was submitted for Van Vollenhoven to be returned to Kansas, where he will face the charge.
The Lawrence, Kansas, Police Department told KCTV5 that in January 2022, they were alerted about a runaway juvenile possibly in the area. The child was quickly located and brought to safety. Investigators discovered that the child had flown into the area with a plane ticket allegedly purchased by Van Vollenhoven. Allegations of a sexual nature were also made, but due to the ongoing investigation, further details have not been released.
As of Wednesday, Van Vollenhoven remains in custody in Jackson County with no bond, held on behalf of the Douglas County Sheriff’s Office. No additional information has been provided at this time.
