MEMPHIS, Tenn. — An 18-year-old man, Xzavier Gray, has been charged with attempted first-degree murder following a shooting incident in the Frayser neighborhood, authorities said.

Gray was arrested on Sunday, and his bond details have yet to be determined. The case stems from an attack on July 20, when the victim was involved in a marijuana sale on Stonehurst Street.

According to police reports, the victim was in a car facilitating the sale with a female acquaintance he met through social media. Suddenly, a red SUV arrived, and four to six armed men exited the vehicle. They ordered the victim not to reach for anything, but when he reached for his gun, the suspects opened fire.

The victim crashed his Honda Accord during the attack and was later found wounded inside the wrecked car. After a few days, he was able to identify Gray and another individual as the shooters. The status of the second suspect’s arrest remains unknown.

Police continue to investigate the case.
