A 41-year-old woman with a history of drug arrests is facing serious charges after being caught with almost an ounce of crystal methamphetamine during a high-speed encounter with police last month.
According to a magistrate’s complaint filed in Superior Court, Cheryl Lynn Brewer was pulled over for speeding around 12:45 p.m. on April 29 after an officer observed her Toyota 4Runner driving with expired license plates on Route 3.
The officer followed Brewer at speeds up to 60 mph, activating lights and sirens in an attempt to stop the vehicle. Brewer continued driving, passing three streets after turning onto Route 28 and later Chalan Karetan Trosu, before finally pulling over.
When Brewer exited the vehicle, she consented to a search for weapons. During the search, officers discovered an object tucked into her waistband. When asked about it, Brewer reportedly said:
“Please, I can’t go back to jail.”
She then removed four bags of crystal methamphetamine, which authorities later confirmed to weigh a total of 23.46 grams — nearly an ounce.
Brewer allegedly admitted to daily methamphetamine use and told police that she bought the drugs from multiple individuals and also sold methamphetamine.
As a result, Brewer was charged Wednesday with the following:
Possession of a Schedule II controlled substance with intent to deliver (first-degree felony)
Possession of a Schedule II controlled substance (third-degree felony)
Eluding a police officer (misdemeanor)
Expired registration (petty misdemeanor)
Speeding (violation)
Brewer has two prior drug-related convictions: one in 2015 for felony drug possession, and another in 2018 for drug possession with intent to distribute.
If convicted of the current charges, Brewer could face more than 26 years in prison. She is currently being held on $1,000 cash bail.
