Chamarajpet police have arrested a 43-year-old woman, Uma, from Ilyas Nagar for allegedly stealing Rs 67 lakh in cash, 1.4 kg of gold, and 2.4 kg of silver ornaments from the house where she was employed.
According to authorities, Uma was hired three months ago by Radha RK to care for her sister Sujatha, who is ill, for a monthly salary of Rs 23,000.
Sujatha had recently sold her property near Electronics City and kept the cash, gold, and silver in a wardrobe at her home. On June 9, Radha discovered the valuables missing. CCTV footage revealed Uma leaving the house with a bag on June 4.
When questioned, Uma initially denied any involvement, prompting Radha to file a police complaint. Uma was taken into custody on June 10. During interrogation, she confessed to the theft.
Police have recovered Rs 57 lakh in cash and 211 grams of ornaments worth Rs 12 lakh from Uma’s daughter’s house. Investigations are ongoing to trace the remaining stolen items.
