The Greater Noida Police have arrested Zoya Khan, a woman accused of pressuring police officers by pretending to be an IAS, IPS, or IFS officer. Khan allegedly used spoof calls to threaten both police officers and civilians, posing as a senior officer in various instances.
In one case, Khan contacted the SHO of Sector 142 police station and pressured him to intervene in a case by impersonating a senior police officer. In another instance, she threatened a man, Abhishek Jain, from the Anti Corruption Bureau, warning that he would face false charges and imprisonment unless he complied with her demands.
The Deputy Commissioner of Police (DCP), Shakti Mohan Awasthi, revealed that Khan used a server based in Dubai for her spoof calls, allowing her to disguise her phone number. Spoofing involves altering the caller ID to appear as if the call is from a trusted number. Khan also employed the MagicCall app to alter her voice, further misleading victims.
The investigation has uncovered multiple instances where Khan impersonated senior officials to demand police escorts in Noida, Gurugram, and Meerut. She had previously taken the UPSC exam but was not selected. In response, Khan resorted to fraudulently posing as a high-ranking government officer to threaten and deceive people.
Police are continuing their investigation and have discovered the name of an IAS officer connected to her activities, which is still being examined. Zoya Khan remains in custody, with authorities looking to gather further information from her.
