Posed as doctor despite lacking medical license in Florida
Wilson Muñoz Suárez, a 60-year-old man accused of impersonating a doctor and performing unlicensed cosmetic procedures, was arrested in Miami after operating illegally at a clinic in Little Havana.
Despite marketing himself online as Dr. Wilson Muñoz, boasting over 25 years of experience and offering a range of aesthetic treatments, Muñoz had no medical license in Florida and was only registered as a surgical assistant.
Authorities say Muñoz performed procedures at New World Medical & Mystic Cosmetic Surgery, located at 2020 SW First St., Miami, without proper authorization. His activities came to light after a woman from Orlando, who found him through social media, underwent an aesthetic procedure at the clinic in October. She later confronted him in person when he became unreachable, recording him as he admitted to the surgery.
Investigators from the Miami-Dade Sheriff’s Office verified that Muñoz had no valid credentials to practice medicine in the state. His online presence, which included promoting medical supplements and consultations, further misled potential clients.
When officers arrived at his Doral home to arrest him, Muñoz attempted to evade capture by using his elderly mother as a human shield, grabbing her by the neck and trying to close the door on authorities. Thankfully, officers were able to intervene without causing her harm.
Muñoz now faces several serious charges, including:
Practicing medicine without a license
Assault on a person over 65 years old
Domestic violence
Resisting arrest without violence
His bond for the unauthorized practice of medicine was set at $2,500, with other charges pending judicial determination. As of Thursday, Muñoz remained in custody at the Turner Guilford Knight Correctional Center.
Police are urging anyone who may have been treated by Muñoz to come forward, as the number of potential victims is still unknown.
