MIAMI GARDENS, Fla. – A year-long feud between two brothers ended in tragedy when Willyam Martin, 29, was arrested for the fatal shooting of his brother on Tuesday at their shared home in Miami Gardens. The shooting occurred during a heated argument at the residence on Northwest 168th Terrace.
Police officers seized an Onmni Hybrid A-15 rifle from Martin’s bedroom, along with six spent casings found nearby. Martin was arrested shortly after the incident and was booked into the Turner Guilford Knight Correctional Center early Wednesday, according to county records.
The altercation reportedly began with both brothers wielding knives. A frantic 911 call from the victim was made, in which he can be heard saying, “I need some help now.” Witnesses told police that after briefly retreating to his bedroom and putting down the knife, Willyam Martin was confronted again by the victim, who knocked on his bedroom door, threatening to call the police.
One witness recalled that Martin exited his bedroom and demanded the victim “tell the truth” about the argument before returning to his room and firing a shot at the victim, who was standing in the hallway.
While the arrest report doesn’t specify the cause of the brothers’ conflict, Martin reportedly showed police a video of the argument that occurred before the shooting. In addition to the murder charge, Willyam Martin faces a pending grand theft vehicle case.
He remains in custody without bond.
