MYRTLE BEACH, South Carolina — Two men were arrested and charged with more than one million dollars in fraud after police suspected them of using marijuana near a Myrtle Beach hotel.

Willie Bernard Perry faces charges including marijuana possession, loitering, and seven counts of receiving stolen goods worth over $10,000 each.

Devonte Owen Dawkins was charged with loitering, credit card theft, and eight counts of receiving stolen goods valued at over $10,000 each.

On July 11 at 7:30 a.m., a Myrtle Beach Police officer spotted a suspicious vehicle running but empty near Comfort Suites Myrtle Beach Central hotel. Upon checking, Perry and Dawkins were found inside and detained.

A search of the vehicle uncovered many checks totaling over one million dollars connected to two victims. Police also found five credit cards and two identification cards not belonging to the men. Marijuana was discovered in the glove box.

Hotel staff confirmed Perry and Dawkins had checked out the previous day. The officer considered their presence at the location as loitering for harmful purposes.

Both men are being held at J. Reuben Long Detention Center. Dawkins’ bond is set at $210,232, and Perry’s bond is $175,508.
