William McCoy Arrested in Buena Vista After Assault, Theft

Suspect fled traffic stop, assaulted deputy, faces 12 charges

BUENA VISTA, Colo. (KKTV) — A man wanted on multiple warrants was arrested in Buena Vista late last week after fleeing a traffic stop in a stolen vehicle and assaulting a deputy during his apprehension, according to the Chaffee County Sheriff’s Office.

The suspect, identified as 47-year-old William McCoy of Del Norte, was pulled over around 5:50 p.m. near CR 306 and Highway 24 after deputies recognized the vehicle as reported stolen out of Alamosa.

As soon as the vehicle stopped, McCoy reportedly fled on foot. A deputy pursued and eventually apprehended him, though officials say McCoy allegedly assaulted the deputy in the process. Both were later treated for minor injuries at a local hospital.

A search of the stolen car revealed:

Open containers of alcohol and marijuana

About 1.9 grams of methamphetamine

A debit card not belonging to McCoy

Multiple pieces of drug paraphernalia

McCoy was booked into the Chaffee County Jail on several new charges including:

Second-Degree Assault on a Peace Officer

Second-Degree Motor Vehicle Theft

Driving Under the Influence

Resisting Arrest

Drug possession and open container violations

He was also arrested on two active warrants from Alamosa County, which include charges of:

Domestic Violence Assault

First-Degree Burglary

Second-Degree Assault by Strangulation

Sexual Assault

Criminal Impersonation

False Imprisonment

Violating Bail or Bond Conditions

McCoy is currently being held on a $153,000 bond.
