A routine traffic checkpoint in Laurel County, Kentucky, led to the arrest of an 81-year-old man after officers discovered a large quantity of methamphetamine hidden under the hood of his truck.
Checkpoint Leads to Major Drug Bust
The Laurel County Sheriff’s Office reported that the arrest happened around 1:30 p.m. on KY 552, approximately seven miles south of London.
During the stop, a K-9 unit with the Laurel County Drug Interdiction Task Force alerted officers to possible drugs in a white Ford F-150. Upon searching the vehicle, officers uncovered a large stash of meth concealed under the hood.
Suspect Identified as William Harold Clontz
The driver was identified as William Harold Clontz, a London, Kentucky resident. Authorities also found that Clontz had an outstanding warrant for failure to appear in court and was driving on a suspended license.
Charges & Ongoing Investigation
Clontz was taken into custody and booked into the Laurel County Correctional Center. His charges include:
Trafficking in a controlled substance (first-degree, first offense – methamphetamine)
Driving on a suspended license
Multiple traffic violations
