Aberdeen, NC — William Branch, 35, of Rockingham, was arrested on Nov. 3, 2024, in connection with a larceny incident that took place at Walmart in Aberdeen on Dec. 9, 2021. The Aberdeen Police Department reports that officers were called to the store after receiving a report of a theft and intentional mis-scanning of items at the self-checkout.

Upon arrival, asset protection officers informed police that Branch had been seen under-ringing items while using the self-checkout. Following a thorough investigation, including witness statements and video surveillance review, investigators confirmed that Branch had intentionally under-scanned items, resulting in a theft.

A warrant for Branch’s arrest was issued on Jan. 24, 2022, on charges of felony obtaining property by false pretenses and misdemeanor larceny. Despite attempts to locate him in Moore County, Branch was not apprehended until Nov. 3, 2024, when he was found in Richmond County.

Branch was taken before a Richmond County magistrate, where a $1,500 secured bond was set. He is currently presumed innocent until proven guilty in court.
