by Sophia Bennett

Wichita, KS — A man originally charged with second-degree murder in a fatal stabbing earlier this year has been sentenced after pleading guilty to voluntary manslaughter.

On Friday, Judge William Woolley sentenced William Ball, 51, to 55 months in prison followed by 36 months of post-release supervision for the death of Brian Edwards.

The incident occurred on March 10 in the 4100 block of E. Whitney Lane, near Pawnee and George Washington Boulevard. Officers arrived to find Edwards suffering from a stab wound to the upper body. He was rushed to a hospital but died about 30 minutes later.

At the time of the stabbing, Ball was 24 years old. He later pleaded guilty to voluntary manslaughter, resulting in a reduced sentence from the initial second-degree murder charge.
