Miami-Dade authorities have arrested Wilfredo Antuna, 35, in connection with the violent armed robbery of well-known Cuban jeweler York Valdés, popularly known online as “York the Jeweler.” The incident took place on March 13 at Valdés’s home in southwest Miami-Dade.
Antuna was taken into custody on Thursday while wearing a stolen white gold Cuban chain and a Gucci shirt—both belonging to Valdés. He now faces multiple felony charges, including armed robbery and kidnapping.
The victim, who owns York Jewelers with locations in Hialeah and southwest Miami-Dade, identified Antuna during a police lineup of eight individuals.
According to arrest documents, the masked robbers entered Valdés’s home late at night, held him, his pregnant wife, and young daughter at gunpoint, and forced them into one room while they looted the home. In addition to luxury handbags and valuables, the suspects stole a white Cadillac SUV that has not yet been found.
Police reports note that one of the attackers said, “We know who you are, we know you are York the Jeweler,” suggesting the crime may have been motivated by Valdés’s online presence, where he has over 120,000 followers.
Valdés was able to escape during a moment of distraction and seek help, potentially preventing the situation from escalating further.
Following the ordeal, Valdés expressed concern about his family’s safety and is now reconsidering how much he shares on social media: “This made me rethink my presence online.”
Miami-Dade police continue to search for the other two suspects. Spokesman Joseph Peguero urged the public to review any home security footage and report anything suspicious.
Antuna is currently held at the Turner Guilford Knight Correctional Center.
