BATON ROUGE, La. — A teacher at Westdale Middle School was arrested Tuesday, September 16, after being found with cocaine during a random drug search at the school.
Virginia Somers, 47, was discovered in possession of cocaine inside a wallet by a drug-sniffing dog deployed on campus. Subsequent testing confirmed the substance was cocaine, sources said.
According to officials, Somers claimed the cocaine belonged to a friend who gave it to her during an LSU football tailgate the previous Saturday.
A search of Somers’ vehicle also uncovered marijuana and drug paraphernalia, including pipes, officials reported.
Somers, who teaches Math Intervention at Westdale Middle School and has over a decade of teaching experience, now faces charges related to drug possession and possession of paraphernalia.
The East Baton Rouge Parish Public School System issued a statement regarding the incident.
