by Ananya Mehta

The Cyber Crime Police (East Zone) of the Greater Chennai City Police arrested three individuals from West Bengal on Wednesday, September 25, 2024, for their involvement in a phishing scam that defrauded a Chennai resident of Rs2.35 lakh.

The victim, Debendran Narayankar, 60, a resident of Nungambakkam, filed a complaint last year after receiving a suspicious message on August 4. The message claimed to be from SBI, offering reward points amounting to Rs9,730, with a warning that the offer would expire that day.

Authorities have emphasized the importance of vigilance against such phishing attempts, as cyber fraud continues to escalate. The investigation into this case highlights the ongoing efforts by law enforcement to combat cybercrime and protect citizens from financial scams.
