MADISON, WI — Quo Vadis Lewis, 40, of Wausau, was sentenced to 12.5 years in federal prison on January 3rd after pleading guilty to charges related to the distribution of cocaine and methamphetamine, as well as firearms possession as a convicted felon.

Lewis, who led a large drug trafficking organization, was convicted of conspiracy to distribute 500 grams or more of methamphetamine and cocaine. Additionally, he was found guilty of possessing a firearm as a convicted felon.

The investigation into Lewis began in 2021 when authorities received information from an informant, identifying him as the leader of a major drug distribution network. The investigation included controlled purchases, package seizures, and a raid on Lewis’ home. In one significant instance, the US Postal Service intercepted an 11-pound package addressed to Lewis containing 10 pounds of meth. Firearms, extended magazines, and ammunition were also seized during the raid.

US District Judge William Conley highlighted the severity of Lewis’ role as a leader in the trafficking of large quantities of drugs, emphasizing the need for a substantial sentence to protect the public.

Numerous law enforcement agencies, including Wausau Police, Mountain Bay Metro, Wisconsin State Patrol, and sheriff’s officers from Marathon, Portage, and Lincoln County, played crucial roles in the investigation.

In connection with the same drug ring, eight others have also been charged. Teala L. Kumbera was sentenced to 54 months in federal prison on November 14, 2024, for her role in the conspiracy. Shandel L. Mohr received 12 months and 1 day in federal prison on December 3, 2024. Other individuals, including Tommie Haney, Edwin Lewis, Craig C. Gates, and Troy A. Olsen, have pleaded guilty and are awaiting sentencing, while Samuel A. Teague and Shelby Gutch are set to plead guilty in the coming days.
